Sorites-Heaps of Propositions
A typical proposition in reduced form consists of two premises and a conclusion. However, generally a person speaks to us in volumes and we have to infer the meaning from the heaps of propositions in the conversation. There are two ways of deriving the inference. One is the Aristotelian Sorites and the other is Goclenian Sorites. They can be explained as follows:
Aristotelian Sorites:
All A is B = Good people are kind
All B is C= Kind people are compassionate
All C is D= Compassionate people are helpful
All D is E=Helpful people are strong
Therefore, All A is E =All Good people are strong
Goclenian Sorites:
All D is E= Good people are kind
All C is D= Compassionate people are good
All B is C= Helpful people are compassionate
All A is B= Strong people are helpful
Therefore, All A is E= Strong people are kind
