Fallacy of Composition

When we say that a quality which is possessed by a member is also possessed by a group, we commit the Fallacy of Composition. Similarly, when we assert that a quality which is possessed by a part is also possessed by a whole we commit this Fallacy.[1]

Example:  To assert that “all the farmers are carrying out protests because they are against the ruling political party”, when in real most farmers are carrying out their protests genuinely only because the farm laws have adversely affected them commits this Fallacy of Composition. It might be true that only a part of the farmers may be against the ruling political party.
